After spending 35 years serving as a United Methodist pastor, Tom now finds himself enjoying the give-and-take of a classroom, approaching each class as a teacher and a learner. He is a wonderful encourager, using his experience to pastor students as they navigate the dual path of spirituality and academia. He also reaches beyond the classroom to care for colleagues and those outside the immediate ATS family.
Tom cites his lovely wife, Kitty, as the most influential spiritual presence in his life. Above any single event, Kitty's continual presence has pointed him to Christ. They met in the summer of 1969 and married the following year. The Snyders now have two sons, two daughters-in-law, two grandchildren, and two granddogs!
One of Tom's interests outside of work is art, which led him to be an art volunteer within Ashland City Schools for 17 years. His other hobbies include reading, music, and drama, particularly English period dramas. He also loves to visit museums and historical sites and, like anyone who experiences snowy winters, loves to relax by the pool when on vacation to warmer climates.
