Preview Days

“Experience Ashland” Preview Events are the most comprehensive way to find out who Ashland Theological Seminary is, and who we hope to be while preparing you for a lifetime of ministry in your context.

Students who attend a preview can expect to leave with a much clearer picture of who we are as an institution, and how your calling may be best managed by letting our 100+ years of experience training pastors, counselors, missionaries and teachers serve you. Choosing a seminary, and being obedient to a call is often a daunting task. This is our way of helping you discern in spite of all of the complexities, and variables. You’ll leave with as much information, and encouragement as you can handle.

Though there are different formats at each of our centers, all previews help prospective students evaluate their fit with us, by exposing you to faculty, staff, current students, alumni and when possible, allow you to sit in a class within your desired discipline. See below for further details about the preview near you.

Previews at the Ashland Center are valuable even for folks considering another center. Because the Ashland Center houses most of the faculty and staff, this center exposes prospective students to the fullest representation of our personnel. The agenda for the Ashland center is generally a full day event.

  • Prospective students register around 9:30am with light refreshments
  • You’ll have program overviews relating to the programs you are considering
  • Prospective students will sit in on a portion of a class
  • Share lunch with current students, and additional faculty and staff members
  • We’ll discuss financing your education, scholarships, application procedures on campus & overnight housing, student life, and offer a campus tour
  • The formal program is usually over by 3:00pm

Previews in Columbus are more compact and tend to be customized to the needs of the prospective students that quarter. This particular preview is for Counseling students only, because of the new cohort starting in Columbus this fall. We have a special schedule for you this time. You will be sharing in the Annual Chili Cookoff, with faculty, students and staff. Rregistrants will be eating several homemade chilis – complete with all the trimmings, a few of which are perennially award winning. A student can expect much of the same information as at the Ashland Center previews.

  • Students register by 10:00am
  • Program overviews by Dr. Mann, who oversees the Midwest Counseling Program.
  • Presentation of financial aid/scholarship information, application procedures by the admission staff.
  • You will have an opportunity to sit in on a class session to end the day. Click here to see the class syllabus for Marriage and Family Counseling with Professor Kelso.
