As we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection today, we also bring to the conclusion the season of Lent and Holy Week. We have just experienced a 40-day period of fasting, repentance and reflection, followed by a week of reenacting the final days of Jesus’ earthly ministry. So, it is easy to see today as an ending rather than a beginning. It’s easy to think - “Easter is here, now we can get back to normal.” But the point of this day is the very opposite. The resurrection of Jesus is not the end, but only the beginning. It is about the defeat of death and the beginning of life.
As you take time celebrate and worship this Easter Sunday, I encourage you to reflect on what the resurrection of Jesus means to you. How is your life different because of his resurrection and how will you live life because of it? Easter is not about an ending, but a new beginning.
