While a student at Ashland Theological Seminary, Sylvia felt a call to theological librarianship during a chapel service and has now been the director of the ATS Library since 2001. She has seen tremendous changes in librarianship over the past 12 years which include things like the use of computers in libraries, alternate methods used in acquiring library materials and the introduction of new standards and formats for cataloging as well as information management, delivery and dissemination.
On a day-to-day basis, Sylvia’s responsibilities include helping patrons with research needs, managing collection development, overseeing the budget and all expenditures, cataloging library materials and processing and evaluating donations.
One of Sylvia’s greatest joys is to visit publishers, libraries, archives and museums in her travels throughout the US and Europe. This continually helps to broaden her perspective on knowledge and information and allows her to understand her field more completely.
