This course will examine the ministry and life of one of the greatest spiritual writers of the 20th century, Henri J. M. Nouwen. Major movements in his life and ministry as well as major writings will be addressed. The course will focus on the major themes of his 40 published volumes such as solitude, community, mission, compassion, prayer, and healing. Other theological topics such as Nouwen’s understandings of God, Christ, salvation, atonement, the church, creation, and the image of God will also be addressed.
