About

Who We Are

Ashland Theological Seminary’s goal is to provide affordable and accessible education for those seeking to grow spiritually and fulfill their calling.

Taking a broad evangelical approach across degree and certificate tracks, faculty, and administration are dedicated to preparing your heart, your head, and your hands to follow the leading of Christ. Through individualized attention and community discussions, the seminary’s educational model brings together diverse perspectives in ways that foster unity in the things that pull people apart.

Instead of teaching you what to think, the curriculum is designed to equip you to approach and apply God’s teaching across every level of your life and ministry. Ashland Theological Seminary builds in its students a brand of faith that engages the realities of both personal and public life, giving you the tools and knowledge to empower those around you as they pursue their own calling.

Welcome from Our Dean

I am delighted you are considering our institution for your seminary journey. Since our founding in 1906, we continue a rich and distinctive history of commitment to scripture, academic excellence, community, and spiritual formation. While academics causes critical thinking stretching, it is through the interactions with faculty, staff, and peers that transforms the character of our students. The diversity of denominations, church experiences, ethnic backgrounds, nationalities, and theological perspectives of men and women at various stages of life and spiritual development adds to the fullness of seminary experiences. We are full of anticipation for another year pursing our core commitments and following where God leads.

We pray discernment and blessing over you as you consider joining the work God is doing here.

Blessings,

Yvonne Glass, PhD, LPCC-S
Executive Dean of the Seminary
Professor of Counseling

Our History

For more than a century, Ashland Theological Seminary has equipped modern-day disciples for effective ministry. As a graduate division of Ashland University, our campus was born from an 1888 institutional commitment to Gospel ministry. In 1906 Ashland University President J. Allen Miller emphasized the importance of this commitment by resigning from his position to serve as dean of the theological department. His transition established a powerful legacy of ministry preparation that continues to this day.

Core Values

Scripture

Ashland Seminary believes God’s saving revelation has been supremely made in Jesus Christ. The Bible is the complete and authentic record of that revelation. We are committed to both the Old and New Testaments as God’s infallible message for the church and the world. The Scriptures are foundational to the education process at Ashland Seminary.

Community

Ashland Seminary builds community through shared faith. As students, staff, faculty, and administration, we identify ourselves as community. We express community through Chapel, classes, Spiritual Formation groups, social events, conferences, prayer cells, and joint ministry experiences as we work and live together. Within this environment of support and challenge, it is possible for us to grow inwardly, in our relationship with God and others, and in our outlook on the world.

Spiritual Formation

Ashland Seminary believes that Spiritual Formation is at the heart of all we do. Spiritual Formation is the process of nurturing an intimate relationship with God, encompassing heart, soul, and mind. Spiritual Formation is obedience to the Word of Christ and an intentional commitment to grow, study, pray, and be held accountable for our life and witness, both before God and one another.

Academic Excellence

Ashland Seminary is committed to academic excellence. While seminary education is unique, Ashland creates an atmosphere conducive to academic studies and sustains high scholastic standards from an internationally recognized faculty. Integrated within our curriculum is the whole framework of the Seminary’s Core Values leading to a goal of lifelong learning expressed through servant leadership.
