How Do I Register for Classes?

Detailed Instructions

Below you will find a step-by-step list of how to use Self Service to register for classes for the upcoming semester. We highly recommend meeting with your academic advisor or program director to discuss your course selections before registering.

To begin registering for classes, you will need a list of all of the classes you would like to take for the upcoming semester. Please meet with your academic advisor to create a list of the courses you need and have your subject codes and course numbers in front of you before starting registration (such as OTS 5511, NTS 6601 or CTH 5520).

Start by clicking the “register for classes” button at the bottom of this page. This button will take you to the Self Service login page. Enter your Ashland University email address and password to login.

You can start adding classes to your schedule by selecting “course catalog” from the available options.

Once you’ve opened the Course Catalog page, you can search for the courses you would like to take. Choose one of the following search options to start adding classes to your schedule.

From the “Subject Search” tab, you can select your subject from Ashland University’s complete list of course subjects. Be sure you select one of Ashland Theological Seminary’s course subjects by choosing an option that has the word “SEMINARY” at the end of the name. Click “search“ to pull up course options.

When you find one of the classes you would like to take, add it to your shopping cart by clicking the gray dropdown bar titled “View Available Sections.”

Then you will need to locate your desired class and click “Add Section to Schedule.”

When more information pops up click “Add Section.” Continue this process until you have added all of the classes you would like to take for the semester.

If you would like to search for classes using helpful specifications, you can use the “Advanced Search” tab. From this tab, start by selecting a semester from the term dropdown. Next, select your course by choosing a subject from the courses and sections dropdown and entering your desired course number in the “Course Number” field (such as 5511, 6061).

You will have the option to choose the day of the week a course meets, the campus location and more. Less is more when it comes to filtering classes, so if you would like to see as many search results as possible use fewer selections.

If you would like to discover all of the courses we offer in a given subject, select “Course Type” and choose a subject from the dropdown menu. This option pulls up all of the course options available to you for any given subject.

Click “Search” to pull up course options.

When you are ready to add a class to your shopping cart click the gray dropdown bar titled “View Available Sections.”

Then locate your desired class and click “Add Section to Schedule.”

When more information pops up click “Add Section.”

Continue this process until you have added all of the classes you would like to take for the semester.

Now that you’ve added all of your classes for the upcoming semester to your shopping cart, it’s time to check out and officially register. To do this, click on the “Ashland University” logo and navigate back to the Self Service Welcome page. From here, select “Student Planning” from the list of options.

Once you’ve arrived at the Student Planning page, select “Plan your Degree & Register for Classes.”

Now you can register for the classes you added to your shopping cart for this semester. To do this, choose the upcoming semester on the top left corner of the screen.

Then locate the courses you added to your shopping cart for the upcoming semester. These courses will be featured in the left-hand column on the page.

In the left-hand column, you will have the option to register for classes that are in your shopping cart or drop classes for which you have already registered. When you have successfully completed your registration, you will receive email confirmation to your Ashland University email address.

Registration Help

I'm having trouble with registration. Can you help?

If you’re running into an issue while registering for your upcoming semester, we’re here to support you. Below you’ll find some of the most common issues our students face with registration. If the information below doesn’t address your problem, please reach out to us for assistance at

ats-registrar@ashland.edu.

Keep the following in mind:

  • You will only be able to register during the open registration times featured at the top of this page. You will also only be able to register according to your degree program and the number of semester hours you have completed. The system will block registration attempts until your assigned time.
  • Be sure you select the correct semester when you search for classes.
  • To register for your classes, you will need to know the subject code of your course (such as OTS, NTS, CTH) and the course number (5511, 6601, etc.). Section letters and the campus location of your course are helpful, but this information is not required.
  • Be sure to cross-reference our online academic schedule for the exact dates/times of your classes, particularly for summer courses.
  • In some cases you may not meet the prerequisite for a course because you are currently enrolled in the course that is required. In this situation, you will be blocked from registering for the course and you will need to register using a paper registration form. Contact us for limitations.
  • Please refer to the appropriate catalog for institutional requirements for all degree programs. Be sure you register for classes that satisfy your program requirements.
  • To complete a Directed/Independent Study or Thesis, you must complete and submit the appropriate paperwork before these courses may be added to your schedule.
  • You will be blocked from registering for undergraduate-level courses if you are in a graduate program and vice versa.
  • Please be sure you do not accidentally register for a course that meets in another location. Because we share our online registration with Ashland University, you need to make sure you select the correct location code when necessary. These include: Ashland SEMINARY, Cleveland SEMINARY, ASH Ctr - MCMHC SEMINARY, COLS Ctr MACMHC - SEMINARY.
  • You will receive email confirmation of your registration to your Ashland University email address.

You can use Self Service to access up-to-date information about your current schedule, transcript record, program evaluation when available, and account balance. This service is available to you any time of day throughout the year and does not require special permission.
