Russell Morton

Dr. Russell Morton

Adjunct Instructor

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Morton first came to Ashland Theological Seminary in 1999. Among his previous places of employment was Perkins School of Theology (Southern Methodist University), where he served as reference librarian and later rare book cataloger (1989-1996).

Since 2011, Dr. Morton has been a professional fellow in the Biblical Studies Department at Ashland Theological Seminary.  He also served as an adjunct professor of New Testament in Asbury Seminary’s distance learning program since 2014.

He is the author of two books, and over 100 book reviews and journal and encyclopedia articles.

On the personal level, Dr. Morton has been married to Dr. Dawn Morton since 2000. They share their lives and their home with three adorable orange tabby cats, Scooter, Squealer and Sounder. In addition to teaching, Russell serves as care pastor (visitation) at his church, Freedom Ridge Church (Free Methodist), Ontario, OH.  Russell also volunteer as a chaplain at the Samaritan Hospital in Ashland, OH. In his spare time he enjoys reading, watching documentaries, and baking chocolate chip cookies.
