Assistant Professor of Counseling

Dr. Jennifer Dougall has worked in the field of mental health as a Professional Clinical Counselor and as an Educator throughout her life.  Most recently she had served as the Director for the Center for Student Wellness and Counseling Services at Northeast Ohio Medical University for six years. During her time at Northeast Ohio Medical University the counseling department grew to a five person team supporting medical professional students through counseling, psychiatric services, and wellness programming centered around student mental and emotional health.

Jennifer has worked in a variety of clinical mental health settings throughout her career. She worked at Summa Health System’s behavioral health intensive outpatient treatment program and employee assistance counseling program, in addition to her own private practice.

In addition to her clinical practice, Jennifer has taught in a variety of settings including counselor graduate education at the University of Akron and medical professional programming at NEOMED. She loves the art of teaching and encouraging future counselors to grow in their own self-discovery for their own mental, emotional, and faith development. They, in turn, can then inspire and empower those they are helping to grow and heal.

Jennifer’s spiritual development has always been profoundly impacted by working in mental health and witnessing God’s interventions and healing powers in most impactful ways. She is passionate about “championing the underdog” and a witness to “with God all things are possible”. She has special interests in removing barriers for underserved populations seeking mental health care. Her published research focused on the intersection of socioeconomic class and biases in mental health providers.

Jennifer was recently blessed to become a board member for Open M a Christian non profit organization. She looks forward to bringing her mental health background and experience by finding new opportunities to help the underserved in ways that are most impactful for healing and community growth.

Jennifer is a Pennsylvania native and came to Ohio and received her B.A. at the College of Wooster and then later received her M.A. and Ph.D. in counseling from the University of Akron.

Jennifer and her husband have two wonderful daughters and two very spirited dog children. She has found that love and laughter are the two primary Godly blessings binding her relationships with family and friendships.
