The Global Methodist Church (GMC) is dedicated to promoting spiritual transformation through deep engagement with all the means of grace and fulfilling the Great Commission through evangelism. In alignment with this mission, Ashland Theological Seminary offers a curriculum that fosters strong scriptural and theological foundations and encourages spiritual formation and faithful service. Our programs are designed to equip the Church’s leaders with the tools needed to guide personal spiritual journeys and empower community witness and outreach.

What to Expect

  • Ashland is one of six recommended GMC seminaries.
  • All GMC educational requirements are available at Ashland.
  • We emphasize spiritual formation, discipleship and evangelism.
  • The Master of Divinity Degree, into which GMC educational requirements are incorporated.
  • The Course of Study program, a non-degree, non-credit bearing path that nevertheless provides a comparably rigorous theological and practical training.
  • A combination of a shorter Master of Arts program and the Course of Study.

Ashland equips candidates to attain and retain ordination as deacons by offering these required courses:

  • Introduction to the Old Testament, Parts 1 and 2
  • Introduction to the New Testament
  • Christian Leadership and Conflict Resolution
  • Methodist Doctrine, History and Polity
  • Homiletics
  • Pastoral Care
  • Worship and Sacraments
  • Apologetics
  • Evangelism and Missions

ATS allows ordained deacons to go on for, and retain, ordination as elders by offering the following additional courses:

  • The Story of the Christian Church
  • Church Finance and Administration
  • Christian Theology
  • Mission and Church Renewal
  • Advanced Preaching
  • Spiritual Formation
  • Additional courses in Christian Theology, Church History and New Testament
